Grievance 50 - Diminishing Truth

The U.S. Constitution, in creating Legislative, Executive and Judiciary
branches of government, failed to provide the American people with an
independent investigative news agency with legal authority and
responsibility to expose and report continuously and thoroughly on all
activities of all the branches.

"If a nation expects to be ignorant
and free, it expects something that
cannot be."

The words of Thomas Jefferson recognized that lack of information about
the government was a serious threat to freedom, but the Founders relied
heavily on Private Enterprise and its publications to fill the need.
This placed the people at-large in a position of dependence on
government agencies to come forth voluntarily with information about
their operations, which were seldom self-critical, and on commercial
media that were seldom free from the influence of advertisers and profit
pressures.

Media competition in the field of reporting Public Government was
energetic, but the same media largely steered away from probing Secret
Government and other powerful inside activities, as noted elsewhere in
these Grievances.

As the government grew larger, the American people were increasingly
less informed about its sprawling worldwide operations, even before the
government began assuming "cosmic top secret", "deep cover" and many
other ominus labels of diversion to avoid disclosing all information.
The Constitution failed to require the swearing of all people on the
government payroll to tell the "whole truth and nothing but the truth",
holding them personally legally responsible for all information.

Ignorance of the truth made a massive mockery of the American claim to
be a "free people", since the people at-large could not know what hidden
things the government was doing that could make them unfree. At the
very least, they were not free to gain the whole truth about "their"
government, whch became one of the greatest travesties of The American
Dream.

With an AUTHENTIC CONSTITUTION in harmony with the natural Cosmic Laws
of the universe, and producing High Moral Values and Democratic Ideals, an
independent Public News Agency is deemed essential: "Personnel selected by
merit examination shall investigate and report continually to the People at-large
regarding all proposed Laws, and all other governmental issues and activities,
via its own Mass Media facilities. Management Personnel shall be subject to
removal by a Vote of the People at-large."
